Origins

I was born and raised in Superior, Montana – a small town in the Western part of the state.  How small?  I graduated in a class of 16, of which 12 got diplomas.  I was one of them!  In fact, I went on to receive a Masters Degree in Music Composition and Technology at the University of Montana.

While spending the next five years as a music professor teaching piano, composition, and music technology, I also worked as a conductor, arranger, and headed the university’s music technology lab and recording studio.  Let’s just say that while I was there, the music department went from the middle ages to the 21st century.  And yes, a number of people traveled in time kicking and screaming.  I earned the respect of my colleagues however, partly because I could play Beethoven and Chopin on an acoustic grand piano.  While I am classically trained (thanks to Nancy Assay, Paula Fox, and Dennis Alexander), I enjoy venturing off the page into new territory.  I absorb all kinds of music which forms a confluence of jazzy-classical-new age-country-folk piano.  A sort of western Americana style that emanates from the great state of Montana.

I do a lot of other things as well, as my curiosity about the universe at large is unquenchable.  One of the things I do best though is tell stories on a piano.  I sincerely hope you might listen to a few – and if you think they’re any good, please share them with your friends

I couldn’t make that much noise on a piano with a sledgehammer.
